HIIT Addict isn’t a dedicated cycling app. It’s a flexible interval-training app built for workouts on and off the bike. Use it for indoor cycling, strength training, bodyweight circuits, EMOM, Tabata, HIIT, and more.
Indoor cycling does not have to be complicated
Dedicated cycling platforms such as Zwift, TrainerRoad, and TrainingPeaks emphasize detailed analytics, social features, and long-term training plans. Those tools can be valuable to elite riders and advanced amateurs, but they can overwhelm everyday riders who simply want to get and stay fit.
If your goal is to get on the bike, improve your fitness, and make the most of the time you have today, that additional complexity can become a barrier.
Smart bike and trainer control without the bloat
HIIT Addict gives you the connected indoor-cycling features that matter, without the clutter, complexity, or cost of dedicated cycling platforms.
Full ERG mode support
Connect a FTMS-compatible smart bike or smart trainer over Bluetooth and let HIIT Addict automatically adjust its resistance for each interval target. You can focus on maintaining your cadence instead of shifting gears or adjusting resistance manually.
Manual and non-ERG riding
Prefer to control your own effort? Override ERG and adjust intensity naturally with your gears and cadence.
Sprint Interval Training (SIT) support
Sprint Interval Training (SIT) is a high-intensity training method that involves very short, all-out bursts of maximum effort followed by much longer periods of recovery. An example could be 10-second all-out sprints with 2 minutes of near full recovery, repeated about 10 times.
Connect your smart bike or smart trainer, and every all-out effort is automatically tracked as a sprint. (Sprint efforts must be set to “RPE” of 10 to be considered a sprint.) After each one, you’ll see your average and peak watts compared to your previous and best sprints of the session. And because SIT is about quality over quantity, the app alerts you when your power fades too much for two consecutive sprints, so you know when it’s time to call it.
Each SIT workout also gets plotted on a line chart that tracks your sessions over time, charting your best average watts and best peak watts per session so you can watch your numbers climb.
More info about SIT and how to do it with HIIT Addict can be found here.
No smart bike required
A connected smart bike or trainer is recommended for the full experience, especially ERG mode, automatic resistance changes, and real-time power tracking, but it is not required. HIIT Addict can guide you through any cycling workout using effort-based targets (effort from 1-10), so you can ride on a basic stationary bike, air bike (assault bike), recumbent bike, stair stepper, rower, or any machine where you can manually adjust intensity.
Additionally, when you add a power-based workout from the Discover screen, you have the option to convert it to the RPE effort scale approximation. The app then tells you how hard to push and for how long, and you adjust the resistance yourself.
A growing library for every kind of ride
Choose a workout that matches your time, fitness, and goals. The growing library includes sweet spot, threshold, and endurance training, VO2 max intervals, Norwegian 4x4, sprint interval training, Tabata, and any type of HIIT.
No training plan is required; just choose a workout and ride. New workouts are added regularly, and you can create your own whenever you want something different.
Structured training on and off the bike
HIIT Addict gives you cycling essentials (including power targets, ERG mode, and manual riding) inside a multipurpose interval app.
Whether today’s workout is a threshold ride, a Tabata session, or a bodyweight circuit, you get one clear and adaptable place to train.
HIIT Addict may not be for you if…
- you need the deep analytics, coaching integrations, or long-term planning tools of a dedicated cycling platform
- you want avatar-based virtual worlds, races, and social riding
- you want to sync ride data with Strava to compete on leaderboards or chase KOMs and QOMs
Frequently asked questions
What do the colored blocks mean?
The colored blocks are a visual workout profile. Each block represents one section of the workout. Width shows relative duration; color and height show intensity. Taller, warmer-colored blocks mean harder effort, while shorter, cooler blocks (including gray) mean easier work or rest.
This concept is standard in dedicated cycling platforms such as Zwift, TrainerRoad, and TrainingPeaks. HIIT Addict brings the same clear visualization to all kinds of workouts, whether you are on the bike or off, doing HIIT, circuits, or EMOMs.
Is HIIT Addict primarily a cycling app?
No. HIIT Addict is an all-purpose interval and workout app. Its advanced settings make it a strong choice for rides on a smart bike or a bicycle mounted on a smart trainer, and it works equally well for off-the-bike training. You can also use it for HIIT, Tabata, intervals, exercise circuits, EMOM, and structured sessions on a regular stationary bike or non-smart trainer.
What makes HIIT Addict different from Zwift, TrainerRoad, or TrainingPeaks?
HIIT Addict is built for riders who want a focused, no-fuss workout without the extras. Zwift, TrainerRoad, and TrainingPeaks are excellent if you want virtual worlds, multi-week training plans, race simulations, deep analytics, or coaching integrations. If you simply want to connect your smart bike or trainer, follow a structured workout, and get fit, HIIT Addict provides the essential tools in a simpler, more affordable app.
Is the app free, and are there ads?
HIIT Addict is free to use. The free version lets you save up to three workouts to your collection. There are currently no ads, even for the free version.
What kind of smart bike or trainer do I need?
HIIT Addict connects over Bluetooth to smart bikes and smart trainers that support FTMS (Fitness Machine Service). FTMS is a standard protocol used by many modern indoor-cycling devices, including trainers such as the Wahoo KICKR and KICKR Core, Tacx Neo 2T and Flux, Zwift Hub, Saris H3, and Elite Suito. Check that your specific model supports Bluetooth FTMS before purchasing or connecting it.
Can I do bike workouts without a smart bike or trainer?
Yes. Many cycling workouts are structured as simple work and rest intervals. You can follow them by effort using the RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) scale rather than a connected trainer. That means you can use any stationary bike, spin bike, or regular bike on a basic trainer and simply adjust your cadence and gears to match how hard each interval should feel.
Does HIIT Addict support ERG mode?
Yes. HIIT Addict can control a compatible Bluetooth smart bike or smart trainer and automatically change resistance to match the target for each workout interval.
Can I ride without ERG mode?
Yes. You can override ERG mode by simply switching to “Passive” mode.
Can I create my own custom workouts?
Yes. HIIT Addict includes a powerful visual workout editor that lets you build almost any time-based workout you can imagine. You can chain together blocks such as warmups, cooldowns, rest periods, interval blocks, custom blocks, EMOM blocks, and exercise circuit blocks.
The editor shows each block as a colored segment, so you can add, delete, and rearrange parts of your workout easily. You can also set target effort with RPE, heart rate zones, FTP percentage, or watts, and save your creations for quick access.
Is HIIT Addict the best choice for the most serious and competitive cyclists?
Not necessarily. Elite cyclists preparing for races may be better served by specialized platforms such as Zwift, TrainerRoad, or TrainingPeaks. Those platforms provide advanced features such as virtual racing, adaptive long-term training plans, detailed performance analytics, training-load management, and tools for working with a coach.
If you are like most riders and simply want clear, effective indoor workouts without an expensive specialized platform, HIIT Addict can meet most of your needs at a much lower cost.
Does the app come with pre-made cycling workouts?
Yes. HIIT Addict includes a growing library of pre-made cycling workouts, ranging from simple and accessible to more advanced. You will find sessions focused on threshold, VO2 max, anaerobic efforts, sweet spot, endurance, Tabata, and more. These workouts are available in the searchable Discover screen, and new workouts are added to the library on a regular basis.
Can I use HIIT Addict without any connected devices?
Yes. Even without a smart trainer, heart rate monitor, or any other connected device, HIIT Addict works as a simple work and rest timer for any exercise you like. The big difference from a generic interval timer is the colored block visualization. You can see the entire workout structure at a glance, so you always know where you are, what is coming next, and how long you have left.
Does HIIT Addict work offline?
The app is split into two parts: timers and YouTube videos. All saved timers work fully offline.
YouTube videos themselves always need an internet connection to play, and browsing or searching the Discover screen also requires a connection.
